Couple Session on Film

Nicolle and Taína lived in Portugal for a few years and when they decided they wanted to explore the idea of going back to Brazil, they knew they had to document themselves in a place that was their home away from home.

The session was slow and heartfelt and above all fun.

The Location - Foz do Douro in Porto in 35mm film photography

Having lived in Porto for 29 years, I was always torn to - in my opinion- the most beautiful area of the city, Foz do Douro.

Porto has this magic orange light that hits the dark sea and creates a contrast that it is unmatchable. On this perfect summer day the weather aligned perfectly and there were no signs of any clouds in the sky. We had a full show off on the most important element for 35 film photography: The Sun.

We started by walking on the shore and then we walked along the Pier reaching the Foz Lighthouse - is they are anything more scenic than a Lighthouse? We ended up making most of the photos in Praia das Pastoras. This beach is a secluded trench of sand surrounded by two walls, that offers a sense of protection and allows the light to reflect in a very special way.

Film photography and specially Kodak Portra 400 has this way of enhancing the colors in these specific light conditions and making the blues get softer somehow.

Every time I looked through my viewfinder, I saw this two women in love being their happy selves, surrounded by most beautiful light. Every time I pressed the shutter I was hoping that photo would become one of their favourites. It's always very special to be in charge of capturing these intimate and meaningful events, on this special occasion, Nicolle and Tainá were saying goodbye to Porto, where they lived together before embarking into a new adventure in their homeland, Brazil.
